Katy:
I am so with you re: natural consequences! I wake C and C up and say.. okay I am leaving the room now. And they get up. You know, the other day, they were BOTH late and I just said, hey that's what happens when you drag your feet. Good luck in the last two weeks!!!
Rene,
As far as the breakfast...I'm like a waitress & wondered if they'd ever be self sufficient besides making a bowl of cereal. I often ask myself what monsters am I creating? We have the standard breakfasts, healthy waffles, pancakes etc., but I wait on them hand & foot. I do sit with them & enjoy it until the moment they fight over the most ridiculous things, "he looked at me with an ugly face"...I then run away as far as I can even if it means doing laundry!
I've been late with the kids almost every day this week. I decided I was no longer going to beg them to get out of bed in the morning & they would suffer whatever consequence (I also suffer too) it might be. First, why do I have to beg? Of course, I can't get them to bed at a decent time for many reasons, so they are tired in the morning. Now the consequence...Allison's bus comes to the end of our driveway and the bus is a huge deal! I usually remind her 100 times, "you've got 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds" Each time with frustration in my voice. This week I decided NO MORE! She missed the bus 4 out of 5 days this week, but I'm sticking to it even though there's only two weeks of school left.
Truthfully, I can't imagine trying to leave the house for work & trying to get them out too. However, I imagine they'd become much more self sufficient! Definately imperfect!
